The 3rd International Conference on Social Identity and Health

The ICSIH are a series of psychology conferences showcasing the latest social identity and health research to an international audience. ICSIH-3 was held in the beautiful sub-tropical setting of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The conference built on the success of previous meetings in Exeter and Ottawa, and provided a forum to showcase exciting research in what is a rapidly growing field of interest. ICSIH-3 featured multiple presentational formats designed to maximize opportunities for interaction, and included a full social program. Presentations covered work on the role of social identity in mental, cognitive, and physical health — with research addressing issues such as social disadvantage, social exclusion, stigma, stress, depression, eating behaviour, addiction, trauma, mass gatherings, health communication, assessment, and clinical intervention. The conference also included three social events: a welcome cocktail reception, dinner at the Gallery of Modern Art, and a river cruise to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. These activities presented plenty of opportunities for academics and industry partners to network with their peers, and to enjoy Brisbane’s sights. The conference was fully catered and took place in the heart of the city at historic Customs House on the banks of the famous Brisbane river. ICSIH-3 was organized by members of the Social Identity and Groups Network (SIGN), from the School of Psychology at The University of Queensland at St Lucia, Brisbane, Australia. As well as being sponsored by the School of Psychology, the conference was supported by the Australian Research Council and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. The ICSIH-3 organizing committee would like to thank all these organizations for their support and for making our Brisbane conference an amazing and memorable event.
